DR. CHRIS SNYDER APPOINTED TO HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ADVISORY COMMITTEE OF THE NATIONAL QUALITY FORUM FOR A SECOND TERM

The Board of the National Quality Forum (NQF), a nonprofit, organization with a mission to improve the quality of health care for all Americans, has approved the nomination of Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC) hospitalist and Chief Medical Informatics Officer Chris Snyder, DO to serve a second term on their Health Information Technology Advisory Committee (HITAC).   This national appointment of Dr. Snyder to the HITAC is for a three year term to conclude in June of 2016.

Steven Rhone takes over as Vice President of Patient Care Services at Beebe Medical Center

Beebe Medical Center announces that Steven Rhone, RN, BSN, MS, NE-BC, has been appointed Vice President of Patient Care Services. He joined Beebe Medical Center from Christiana Care Health System where he served as Administrative Director of Patient Access and Capacity Management.

At Beebe Medical Center, Mr. Rhone is responsible for the hospital's nursing units and for developing and implementing nursing strategy and system policies to ensure quality patient care. He is a member of the Executive Staff and reports to Paul Minnick, RN, MSN, NEA-BC, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

UROLOGIST MARK EDNEY, MD TO TESTIFY BEFORE THE US HOUSE COMMITTEE ON VETERANS’ AFFAIRS

Mark Edney, MD, a Salisbury urologist, Chief of Surgery and one of the surgical founders of the Peninsula Institute of Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery at Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC), will testify in Washington, DC on Tuesday, May 21 before the United States House Committee on Veterans Affairs, Subcommittee on Health.

            Dr. Edney is leading the American Urological Association's (AUA) effort to obtain passage of House Bill 984, the "Urotrauma Bill."  The bill requests the establishment of an inter-agency task force

She earned her medical degree at the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, and completed her residency in Family Medicine at Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, PA. STANDARD & POOR’S AFFIRMS PENINSULA REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER’S STRONG BOND RATING

Peninsula Regional Medical Center, the dominant healthcare provider on the Delmarva Peninsula, today announced that Standard and Poor's has affirmed its A/Stable long-term bond rating.  The rating is attached to the series 2006 Maryland Health & Higher Education Facilities Authority revenue bonds issued as part of the Medical Center's $100 million construction and renovation project, which was completed late in 2009.

Steve Cahoon, MSW, LCSW, a Patient Advocate at Beebe Medical Center, has been recognized by the Society for Healthcare Consumer Advocacy for his patient advocacy work at both the local and the national level.

The Society honored Steve Cahoon by presenting him with the prestigious Ruth Ravich Award during the annual conference this month in St. Louis, MO. Ruth Ravich was the founder and first president of the Society, and was committed to improving healthcare services and communication between patients and their healthcare providers. The Society is affiliated with the American Hospital Association.

Bayhealth Adopts Computerized Order System

This spring, Bayhealth will launch a computerized provider order entry (CPOE) system, joining the growing ranks of progressive hospitals nationwide that use this proven patient safety tool.

Instead of jotting medical orders (for nursing care, labs, medications or radiology exams) on a piece of paper or giving orders verbally, our physicians now enter them directly into a computer system as part of the patient's electronic medical record. Our computer network immediately transmits those orders to the people who carry them out.

Bayhealth Welcomes New Patient

- The staff at Bayhealth Inpatient Rehabilitation Center, Milford Memorial, have assisted thousands of people to get back on their feet, literally.

Since late February, they've had the opportunity to care for a patient of a different sort: Galaxy, a 4-year-old black lab. Galaxy, a guide dog, is staying at the hospital with William McCafferty, of Georgetown.

McCafferty, who is legally blind, suffered a stroke on February 21, 2013. After spending four days at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, he moved to Milford's Inpatient Rehab Center, accompanied by Galaxy.
